Awesome little practice tool!

This is the perfect practice tool for people like me who can mostly practice with headphones. The effects sound pretty good, good enough for practice anyway. It also works for bass guitars. The Bluetooth integration is seamless and can stream YouTube or Spotify to play along with. One thing I wish it could do is control the effects with the Fender Tone app. The app exists to control tones and effects with the GT and GTX series of amps, so would have been cool to control it for the Micro as well. Changing effects with the buttons on the unit is a bit cumbersome, but a small cheat sheet is provided to tell you what’s what. Would have been sweet if the app had favourites or presets so you can switch between them with a tap instead of a certain combination of button presses. Still, for what this is, it’s a great little thing and worth the money for us late night practicers.I attached a photo of how it looks on a Strat, in case anyone was curious how it would fit.

WOW! How did Fender do it? The best portable headphone practice amp I've tried yet!

I own a hand-wired Deluxe Reverb & 59’ Bassman (great sounding classic Fender amps) so I was surprised when the amp models in the Mustang Micro were incredibly enjoyable to play. Hard to describe how great it is to be able to practice at night (or while traveling) without disturbing anyone yet with no sacrifice in tone.In my quest to find a high-quality headphone practice solution, I previously tried: Yamaha THR, Blackstar Fly3, iRig HD2, NUX Mighty plug, VOX Amplug, Strymon Iridium and maybe a few others. While they all have their advantages - they missed the mark on size, tone, price or were too complex (requiring cords, apps, power bricks, etc). The Fender Mustang Micro was the only solution that offered all of the following in one small package: fits in a pocket, has amp-like tone, excellent FX, rechargeable, well built, bluetooth jam-along capable (with your smartphone music library) ... and the best part.... no cords , apps, external power source necessary. The Mustang Micro is truly a full featured all-in-one solution that sounds awesome. While I love the Micro as it is, there are a couple things that Fender didn’t include:1) No app: Because the Micro sounds so good, I love cycling through the amp models & fx; I worry I will wear out the buttons - perhaps an app which allows changing of settings would increase the longevity of the device? Also, would be nice to be able to change patches right in front of you (on a desk) rather than looking down or having to reference settings on the supplied card.2) The other thing I wish this had is a way to save a few presets. Again, because the Micro is so good, I would love to be able to save my favorite amp/fx combinations for fast access (would also reduce cycling through buttons). As crazy as it sounds for a portable headphone device,I find myself thinking of the possibilities if this had MIDI or BT capable foot-switching... Crazy right? But Mustang Micro sounds so good, it will have you thinking: “maybe I can gig with this thing?" 😂

Love my Mustang!

Had the guitar for a year before purchasing this amazing Amp. So easy to use and functional. Had to find a pair of vegan headphones first, no small job. The amp compliments the buttery soft headphones and gives spectacular sound enhancing the limited addition H.E.R. Fender Stratocaster. The price was very kind on my wallet, and simple instructions to use this device. The only problem I have is, I want to buy a keyboard, but not sure I can plug it into this Amp too.

Must have for any guitarist looking a practice amp for at home or on the go

I recently had to chance to let someone with a while house full of vintage fender amps demo this and they were floored at how good this micro amp is for what it is. He is a pretty famous studio musician and audio engineer. Sure it is not versatile when it comes to effects, but if you are a plug and play guitarist, just wow. Reverbs are great, amp models are great. The ability to stream backing tracks from your phone to play over is fantastic. Direct recording into your daw... My Palir just sounds like a Tele should and screams through this. If you have decent headphones you will find yourself playing more than ever which is the whole point of this. It does amps and it does them extremely well. The only issue I have is that some headphone plugs are a little finicky. If you have issues it is most likely your headphones and not the micro amp so try a different pair if you can.

Pricey but great tones and design

I purchased a couple pedals, a Diezel Herbert and an Alexander Jubilee Overdrive, a couple months ago. I wanted to listen to the Herbert especially through pedals. I have a Valeton Rushead Max headphone amp I put on the clean channel and plugged into the Herbert's output, but it was still a bit fizzy and didn't sound the best. So I picked up this along with a Boss Pocket GT and a LEKATO headphone amp to try out. I quickly realized I didn't like the Boss Pocket GT and returned it, but after playing around with the other two for a bit I decided the Mustang Micro was the better all around headphone amp and it even highlighted some faults in my Valeton Rushead Max one, which is why I have decided to keep it.For the purpose of running the Diezel Herbert pedal through headphones, I actually thought the LEKATO was slightly better. Part of that is probably because the LEKATO has a neat feature that I haven't seen on other headphones, in that it has a separate section for cab sims so it can be essentially used as a mini, rechargeable cab sim pedal. Turning off the preamp and using a stock VHT Deliverance cab sim gave the pedal the best sound through headphones. But using the Mustang Micro on the white amp setting came very close to the LEKATO, with it just having a bit of a looser sound. Comparing the preamps, I found the preamps on the LEKATO to be horrible, but I really enjoyed the amp models on the Mustang Micro and I especially liked the Uber, which I felt sounded pretty close to the Diezel pedal. So I see myself using the Uber model mostly when I want a Diezel sound through headphones, and then sometimes getting out the pedal itself and running that into the Mustang Micro.Comparing the Mustang Micro and my Valeton Rushead Max, I would say the Mustang has more options while the Valeton Rushead Max has a bit more control over those options. The Mustang Micro has 12 amp models while the Valeton Rushead Max only has 3, but the Mustang only gives you 5 EQ options and a volume adjustment, while the Valeton gives you a volume adjustment, a tone knob, and a gain knob. Similarly, you only have 5 effects on the Valeton but you have knobs that let you adjust the effects more finely, compared to the Mustang Micro having many more effects but only a few modify options to adjust them. I'm not a big effects user so I don't mind not having fine effects adjustments, and I realized the knobs on the Valeton aren't overly sensitive and don't have a very large range on them. The tone knob on the Valeton also acts sort of weird in that when I lower the tone (making it darker) there is a volume drop-off, too. Also, I hadn't noticed it until I compared it side by side to the Mustang Micro, but the overdrive and distortion amp models on the Valeton are rather fizzy and have a lot of static between playing, while the Mustang Micro is basically completely silent when not playing. The Mustang Micro can also supposedly be used for recording which is something the Valeton can't be used for, though I haven't tried this yet. I also prefer the design of the Mustang Micro, with it being smaller, more lightweight, and the folding plug helping to make it more compact and to fit in more styles of guitars. I have previously tried a Vox AC30 AmPlug, and I found while the folding plug helped make it slightly more compact, the Vox AmPlug felt cheaper and flimsier, while the Mustang Micro incorporates a folding plug without sacrificing sturdiness. There are a few adjustments I would make to the Mustang Micro to make it better. One is I would add a gain knob. For the most part you will probably prefer to switch to a different amp for different gain levels, and you can always adjust gain using your guitar's volume knobs, but being able to control the amp model's gain would be nice. Also, I thought the LEKATO having separate cab sims and being able to turn the preamp off was a really neat feature. So what I would do is replace the EQ section with a cab sim section, and the either put two smaller knobs on the front for gain and tone, or add another button and light underneath the knob that lets you toggle between using the knob for volume, gain, or tone. Ideally, the lights would also be easier to distinguish because some of them are hard to tell apart, and having an optional (and I stress optional, since I'm not a fan of being required to connect an app to these small headphone amps like the Boss Pocket GT required) app or computer control where maybe you could replace which amp models, cab sims, and effects presets are currently stored on the device. I would particularly love to have one of the Mustang GTX's Silver Jubilee amp models on the device, since the Jubilee has been one of my favorite tones since getting my Code 50 about a year and a half ago.So overall, while they could maybe add a few more buttons or knobs for further control and/or add optional app control, I think this Mustang Micro is a very good headphone amp. It sounds great and is buil...

Experiment and practice anywhere.

Perfect for quiet practice. Many of the effects of my Fender Mustang III and IV amplifiers in a tiny rechargeable device that fits perfectly on my Stratocaster. Totally portable , great sound that makes practice, composing and experimenting fun wherever you are without disturbing others. Play through my Zoom H4n to record sessions for playback and interface to DAW. A Home Run for Fender!

I do not advise anyone to do this but I’m just showing what I have done.

I just did this today.Mustang micro to 1/8” to 1/4” converter to transmitter to receiver on amp.Now I can get all the effects on my 10watt practice amp.Really woke that little amp up.The Mustang micro is one of the best $100 I’ve ever spent. If you choose to try this it would be at your own risk.My own experience has been a lot of fun.

Best headphone amp available

This thing is phenomenal. The things you can do with it makes this the best headphone amp. You can record, plug directly into an amp with a 1/8 to 1/4 in adapter (see photo), and use a variety of effects and amp models without bothering your neighbors. It can also be used with a bass guitar. How cool is that? I am waiting for this to break so I can buy a replacement but honestly, this thing is very durable. Highly recommend this.

One HUGE bonus I haven’t seen mentioned.

I recently decided to get back to learning to play guitar, and I found myself in need of an amp. While on Fenders website, I stumbled across this device. It seemed cool so I looked up some reviews and was blown away by it. From a portability standpoint it seemed hard to beat and great for learning to play guitar with.I signed up for Fender Play to give it a shot and ordered the Mustang Micro with the discount they gave me. What I didn’t realize at the time is that they WORK TOGETHER. You can literally pair this amp to your phone, play instructional videos on it, and listen to your guitar and the video through the headphone output. When you’re done you can toss the amp back into your guitar case and have the absolute perfect portable solution for learning.Honestly, 100% worth the purchase to me. It’s making learning much much easier and more enjoyable this time around.

Great Unit, Plug Broke in 12 Months

I love this little guy and practice with it quite a bit so I put some miles on it for sure, but the plug snapped off while removing it from my ES355 almost a year to the day after I got it. I was never hard on it while removing, but did yank it out at times. That said I'd be sure to remove it with care, pulling it straight out, especially if you have a tight input connection. Otherwise it's a fantastic device for practice that won't disturb others as you rock out. ;-)

Nice product for a nice price

Nice sound for a headphone amp, it really worths the money. The box is nice and you can hang it on a wall if you wanna keep it at hand. The small color chart for the amps and effects is really useful. A nice product for a nice price.

Incredible clarity

Such a great sound from such a small thing. Perfect for late night, or quick break during lunch time. Enough settings to play with, but not too much that it gets in the way.

Well designed and a great value

Everything fits in a sunglass case, except the guitar! Sound is outstanding with quality headphones and does surprisingly well with standard iPhone ear buds. Easy learning curve and seems to be a decent build quality. Try several guitars, as performance varies. My PRS sound amazing with it. I would definitely replace if lost. Don’t hesitate, just get one!!

A few nit picks

This is the best product out there but Fender needs to update this product so that it can send bluetooth to headphones. The cable keeps getting caught on stuff and yanking the buds out of my ear. I'd like to see some competition in this market too.See the images above. The Micro Mustang has limited movement in a Stratocaster input jack. Maybe there is an adapter? More troubling is the Gibson SG. The Micro Mustang is nearly completed locked down by the tone knob. I know I can't expect Fender to design their products to fit a Gibson. Maybe there's an adapter that can lift the body of the Mustang higher then the height of the tone knob.
